but the “proves her love through numerous trials and help of monsters” rings similar to feyre’s trials utm! elain stan’s refer to elain as psyche (i can find a link to one i just came across one on twt recently) often when trying to connect her to mythological god and goddess romances. ‘fair’ elain having a sudden mate (lucien) vs psyche also having a sudden husband, which their two sisters both fret over for her sake since both men don’t have the best reputations despite not being all that bad. with aphrodite growing so jealous that she supposedly made it so ero’s struck her with one of his arrows so that she’d be “forced into love with the most miserable and hideous beast known to man” out of revenge for mortals claiming psyche was more beautiful than the goddess of lust and beauty herself. It’s so interesting that you say ero’s and psyche! from the versions i know of i rarely see much of the trials highlighted (need to hit up the old texts for that part) by those who speak of them but that aspect aside i always felt that “the most beautiful woman to exist in rome, said to be the most beautiful of her two sisters and more beautiful than aphrodite herself, one who looked like a goddess among mere mortals” which drove the goddess aphrodite to extreme jealousy would all be more reminiscent of elain seeing as she’s known for her looks specifically just as psyche is. Hope that explains it well! Edit: and you can see how it relates to both ACOTAR and Beauty and the Beast! She is then turned immortal and lives with the gods and Eros. She is assisted by various creatures on these tasks, and wins his love. So she asked Aphrodite for help, and she said she had to go through three dangerous tasks to prove her love to him. So she planned to look at him that night. Her two sisters came and visited her and said how crazy it is she doesn’t even know what her husband looks like or does for work. She grew lonely so she was allowed visitors. When Eros came to her that night she just knew it was her true love by his voice. So they did that, and after a long time of waiting, the wind carried her to this beautiful castle. Psyche hadn’t married yet so her father asked Apollo about it at one of the temples and he said to leave her in black on a mountain, and her serpent hubby would whisk her away. Once he saw Psyche, he fell in love with her and hit himself with one of his own arrows. So she told her son Eros/Cupid to make her fall in love with the most vile creature. So a very summarized version is basically the most beautiful mortal was worshipped more than Aphrodite, and that made the goddess angry.
